Would the slits in an inflow pipe be small enough to prevent shrimp from being sucked in?

Here are the lily pipes I'm looking at.

If you will be keeping Red Cherry Shrimp, they are prolific breeders and the babies are really small. You will want to put a sponge over the slits, ugly I know. I initially didn't put a sponge over my intake and later found a shrimp colony living in my canister filter. The babies grew up to midsize by the time I opened the filter.
