So i recently set up a 10gal for a pair of kribs i am trying to breed. also in the tank are 3 white clouds and a chinese algea eater. the female will venture out and let you see her a bit, but male stays under a log all day and rarely comes out. I recently noticed tonight he has her pinned at the top of the tank. What should i do if anything at all? I could have sworn they were pair when i bought em? but never produced a clutch... please help

Every time I've had cichlids pinned in a corner of the tank...they ended up belly up.
Do you have another tank?
Yes i do. a 29... but it has a lima shovel nose, a jack dempsey, and a texas cichlid.. i also have a 7 1/2 cube i could make a fast setup on. i just filled in the males hidie hole he had hoping to decrease agression..
Do you think another male or female will help? If shes not dead by morning that is...
IMO a 10gal is awfully small for a pair of kribs. A 20L would be a better size.

I think you'd better separate them ASAP.
Their not very large yet but im seriously considering the 7.5 for the male for a bit. its awfully dirty but ill do like a 80% change and through a filter on for the night. thank you

I don't mean to change the direction of this thread but I see problems on the horizon with a shovel nose, dempsey and texas cichlid.
Yea im getting ready to to break that tank down and start a planted in it. I have a 125 i was going to put them in in less than a month. Also i believe i fixed the agression. A guy at my lfs breeds rams and said if their anything like rams i need another female because the male is to agressive. so he was kind enough to give me a female and i got all my plants that i orded. so every thing seem kinda back to normal. Im just going to see if it stays this way.
feed frozen brine shrimp i had same problem and then it all stoped
it wont. kribs are aggressive no matter what even more so when they are breeding. i would get that 29g planted and transfer them into that tank
If he was ready to spawn and she wasn't this could result in him discarding her as an unreceptive female making her competition and the enemy.
Thank you william. that sounds good but the original pair i believe are very close to the same age. however now they are all very bright and the male is swimming with the first female.

And decoman: do you think i frozen blood worms will work the same? i feed every other day between frozen blood worms and the next day a type of "healthy" pellet my lfs is wanting me to try. however ia am down to two cube left and i may buy brine the next go around.
Blood worms are great. You might also try putting another shelter type of setup on the bottom. You could also put her in a fry type of net basket. In the long run you may want to invest in one of those plexi tank seperators.
I dropped in about 6 pieces of 6"x3/4" pvc. it kills the look of the tank but keeps her alive so im happy
