in line water filter/water pump

I am looking for info on a small inline water filter. it goes in a 12x12x18. It have about 2.5" of water in it and so I need something that is small and I can hide under the false bottom. I want to have a running river in my tank so I am going to start on the casting of it this week but am unsure on a filter I have some underwater water pumps but would also be open to a small extior pump too.
