If you got this tank what would you do with it?

My neighborhood just had a community yard sale. I got a 20g high for $3 including HOB filter, heater, 20w light strip, and some rocks I'll probably throw away. I just setup a 37g non-co2 low-tech tank. I'm trying to decide what to do with this tank. What would you do? Another low-tech planted tank with fish? A diy co2 planted tank? Planted shrimp tank? Brackish tank? I've got a ton of SMS left, so I'll probably use that for substrate no matter what route I go. Just wanted to get ideas.

I second above. I was given a ten gallon with accessories, and it started out as a low tech shrimper, of course now it has higher lights, and no shrimp... but it's a fun place to start !

This was also my first thought. Perhaps I should go with it. Will I be alright with the 20w fixture?

It will be fine for low light plants. You will probably want to invest in something a bit higher powered in the future.

If you aren't in a rush, I'd do the no-water startup option that has like 10 pages of posts here on the main page of general discussions, to get a nice carpet of m.minutia growing for a low-tech tank, turn it into shrimp or fish whatever after a month or two of letting it grow out when you finally add the water...that's what I'm doing on my next tank at least:)

Yes, I plan on going this route as well. I've got a ton of SMS though, so I need to figure out what ferts to add to it for it's week long soaking period. I also need some low light carpet. If you happen to sell some shoot me a PM.

the only place I've found m.minutia is floridadriftwood.com, but their customer service is HORRIBLE and I'm still waiting for my order 2-3 weeks later.

I did see someone selling some m.minutia on SnS just last week, maybe hit them up, or put a WTB up there...good luck

Also, do a search for "low light carpet" there's some crazy micro micro sword if you want a grass look instead but I couldn't find it anywhere for sale...
