My molly has been acting weird. I just got done treating ick in the tank a few weeks ago. Finally, I plugged the light in so I could see the molly and I found her covered in white... spots.

I know what ick looks like. It looks like grains of salt. I've fought it enough I should know.

But, this molly is different. While her tail does look like ick, sort of, her body has more like patches, not spots and her eye is fuzzy. I know it's got a fungus. I'm sure about that.

But, this isn't acting like any ick I know. Ick is noramally speck like, and tiny. Individual grains, right? Not clumped together.

I don't know... The pictures just don't do it justice, I think...

I'm sorry but those pictures are to small to tell. If it looks like someone dumped a salt shaker on it than it's Ich like you said. If it's a large patch of white that look fuzzy like a cotton ball etc. it's a fungus. I have never seen ich patch up before

I don't think she will make it much longer... I thought her hanging around the filter was just because she's pregnant, but I guess I should have known better... now she's just hanging out on the bottom of the tank, not swimming at all.... I've never had much luck with female livebearers, that's for sure... :icon_frow

Those photos help a lot!!! It looks like cotton wool disease to me. Get an antifungal medication and treat the whole tank. This is usually a secondary issue as the fungus usually attacks areas that were previously damaged most likely from the ich.

Thanks a lot! I hope you are right. I've been treating with MelaFix since yesterday, which is a bacterial infection medicine. I'll get some PrimaFix (fungal) bought as soon as possible.

FYI melafix and primafix are one in the same. Both are solutions of tea tree oil in water. I would get some serious meds. I forget which will work but if you go to a basic fish store they should carry API brand meds. The package will say what each box treats as far as fungus, ich, fin rot, hole in head, etc.

Well, I asked my dad to get me something from PetSmart that said it treated fungus. I expected him to buy Fungus Guard or something like that but he did get me some PrimaFix.

I'm just going to give MelaFix and PrimaFix a try together. My molly is looking better, even with just a 3 day treatment of MelaFix. Hopefully she will be fine...
