I don't want my shrimp to get sucked into the filter intake, but when I put a piece of sponge on it, it reduces the flow of the filter way too much. Maybe the sponge is too fine, but is there a better solution?

Please help!

Stainless steel prefilter. You can get them through Nikki (msnikkistar) or Evilbay.

I use the sponge that is for the inside of an aquaclear filter. It's white and very stiff, it also has a lot of bigger holes. Works perfectly for me with no effect on intake/output at all. They come in packs of three that you can cut down to whatever size you want.

But the prefilter that freph suggested looks much nicer.
