It's a bummer too because I know there's a high risk of losing shrimp in the process.

Just wait for a few days to let it pass. I find that when I rescape only bad things happen and the tank crashes somehow (last time was a horrible BGA outbreak).
I can't just let it pass! I stare at my tank everyday! lol
Are we talking about the tank pictured in your sig? I think it looks great, what do you want to change?
