I have a 300 watt hydor inline heater but discontinued its use because it seemed to stop working. What is the normal life expectance of one of these heaters. It was only running mabye 2 years.

I have been running one of their 200w models for over 3 years no problems.
I've been using the 300W Hydor inline for over 5 years with no problems.

Most aquarium heaters only come with a one year warranty but that doesn't mean that they won't last longer than that. The important thing is to follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation and cleaning.

Did you have the heater mounted vertically when it was running? If not, it is possible that air became trapped in the heater when it was ON and that caused a failure of the unit.

Does it heat the tank water at all?
It was running near vertically(80degree angle) on the out flow side of my co2 reactor. worked great for 2 years. I am going to try to hook it back up to see if it is still heating. I bumped the temp from 75 to 84 because I was keeping discus at the time. I am just curious as I am in planning stages on a 120 gallon tank and would like to use them again.
