I recently bought some plants and now.....I'm absolutely bombed with snails. I see eggs popping up all over the place. I've tried plucking the snails out one by one, but they're literally everywhere.

I'm considering using an algeacide to nuke the snails. My main concern is whether it will harm my fish(red bellied piranhas) or not. Can i get some feedback on what to do please.

I considered using loaches, but I know my Piranhas will munch them

I'm planning on using "no more algae" by tetra. Its main ingredient is copper sulfate which i know is used to kill snails. Can someone please offer suggestions

Have you done any research here on the forum about snails and why you have them?

They're not a bad thing in an aquarium and serve to clean up the things you can't get. And I'm guessing, with the fish you have, you don't have anything to clean up leftover food and spots of algae and detritus. That's why the snails are thriving.

That said - overfeeding can be a bit cause for population explosions.

Copper does kill snails. But you may want to address the larger issue before jumping too quickly.

ya don't go nuking I have the same problem and you can control them by not overfeeding, better to have snails then an amonia spike..

Snails seem like a great idea in piranha tank as they are messy eaters,especially if you do live food. Snails eat it and it doesn't sit on the bottom where the piranhas don't want it anymore.

If they are exploding in your tank, it means they are getting lots of food, especially protein from the extra food the fish aren't eating and are acting as a clean up crew.
