I see from the plant profiles here and elsewhere that blyxa japonica gets from 4-6" tall, but this is clearly hooey since I have a glorious patch right now that stands 10" tall and remember having even taller (less glorious, more spindly) specimens. I am considering trying it as a background in my 30" tall 220g tank (with injected CO2) if it can remain bushy at 12-15" tall. Anyone ever succeed at this?

Hi tomfromstlouis,

Remembering that Blyxa japonica is a stem plant and once the "stems" form they can get quite long. My individual plants are typically in the 4"-6" range but once the "stems" form they become taller; that is usually when I thin the plants.

Hi tomfromstlouis,

What I typically see with my plants is as the stems get taller they shade the leaves below which will detach from the stem so I don't usually let my plants grow much more that 7".

I grew up in StL, miss Ted Drews - LOL
