How often should I change my sponge?
I have a Hagen Elite Mini filter in my 5 gallon betta tank. Everything is going well, but I don't know how often I should change the sponge in the filter.
I squish it every week when I do a water change, but the brown stuff is still slowly building up.

Just squeeze it and rinse it once every few weeks (when you notice low flow) in old tank water.
Well, yes. I remove and squish out the sponge in tank water to help keep debris out of the tank.
