how did you know to start at 1/2 a tsp and not more or less? Is there a negative side effect if I happen to overdose on micros?

Like i dose kno3 and i can test and adjust to what my target is but I can't really do this for micros.

When I started EI dosing I had to account for much slower uptake by plant's in my low light, low tech tank's.
I saw that full EI dosing for high tech suggested 1/4 tsp trace or micros ,three times a week for 60-80 gal so I decided to try 1/2 tsp once a week and then twice a week.
After a while,I settled on 1/4 tsp twice a week ,and this meant less product used and as mentioned,,no negative effect from plant's.
80 gal tank now,is so heavily planted that I sometimes add 3/4 tsp twice a week with 50% water change each week.
I might be a bit apprehensive with too much micro's while shrimp are in the tank but I only say this due to copper in the CSM+B which is in greater quanity than it was in flourish comprehensive that used to be my only fertilizer.
I do have some cherry shrimp and amano shrimp now and have seen no negative reaction from present dosing and as mentioned,,plant's perform well.
