Its a very long process, you have to post a series of photos of your tank, send in water samples, and then the "board" votes to see if you deserve a title change. Takes about 4-6 weeks! The address is in the FAQ section

Algae Grower: 5
Planted Member: 150
Planted Tank Obsessed: 300
Planted Tank Enthusiast: 500
Wannabe Guru: 1000
Planted Tank Guru: 2000
Although I think Bigstick120's idea has some promise. I think I'll consider implementing it but you can bypass it by paying a $250 fee.

For example, if you are a regular TPT member (doesn't pay) and you have 1,000 posts you will still be an Algae Grower, correct?
No they change based on the # of post, nothing to do with paying. If you support PT then you can make your name whatever you want.
