I've read that RCS can be safely kept in densities of up to 10/gallon in a heavily planted tank and don't require feeding until roughly half that. I have five amanos in a heavily planted high tech 29g along with eight rasboras (brilliant and harlequin) and a dwarf gourami; I occasionally drop in a shrimp pellet or two - maybe twice a week - but they don't seem to need it.

How many could my tank safely support and how much food would they require?

How many more do you want? I personally wouldn't want more than 5 in a tank this size- they're little piggies! lol

You COULD put just about as many as you want in there, though... and they'll eat everything, pretty much.

How many do I want? Good question. I've had very poor luck with other inverts in that tank - amanos are tough! - and miss their constant activity. I guess maybe another five or so and some RCS, since they seem to be survivors too.

I've got 5 Amano's growing out in a 10g along with 20 or so RCS and 30+ Platy fry. Mine are healthy, happy, and growing nicely. I don't see why you couldn't keep 10 in a 29g. I've got roughly 300 RCS in my 20g along with a couple Amano's. I usually add 20 RCS or so to my other tanks as very few survive since the Angels snack on them. I have a few big RCS in my other tanks with Amano's.
