I think an planted aquarium club for the state of Alabama would be awesome. I would defiantly be interested in that. But I wouldn't have an idea where to start either, nor would I have the time to make it happen.
How Do You Start an Aquarium Club?
AFAIK, there aren't any fish clubs in my area (Coffee County). How do you go about starting one? And is it possible to get a club going even if you don't want to be in charge of it?

you could allways get started by throwing a trimming / wc "party" at your / some ones house, or a help me put together my new tank "party" type of thing.
