I’ve got a planted tank that’s doing ok, but the filtration aspect is not doing as well, the intake of the filter is always cloogged, I can clean it one day and the next, it’s clogged, there was this stem that shed almost all of it’s leaves, I removed that plant, but now the intake is covered in the brown muck, is there any way around this? The tank is heavily stocked

Use a pre-filter sponge on the intake. Not only catches the crap, but keeps the inside media lasting longer. I use them on all my filters with intakes and my sump intake pipes and clean them every other week. Works well for me.

I use these air filter replacement filters. Find them online in packages. Just slip them over the intake tube. there are different sizes, these small ones I use on the smaller and medium HOB filters.
