How can you make a bog filter for a pond?

Do you basically just place a box at the high of the water fall and place it with larger to smaller gravel then place some fast growing plants inside of it?

This is some kind of zero maintenance filter?

Would this be both mechanical and biological filtration?

Thanks.

That is the principal of a bog filter, water hyacinth and water lettuce often use. I would say this biological. At far at mechanical that the job of your skimmer. Hope that help

You have the idea essentially. The plants filter the water. You'll get some mechanical filtration but not as much as you would want
