I got 2 rummy nose tetras yesterday. The internet said they get 2-inches( same as neon tetra, glow-light tetras,etc.). However these fish seem very small. In fact, the Neon tetra looks like a whale next to these rummy nose tetras.

Perhaps they are just babies or perhaps even if they get 2 inches long they are still smaller in size than the other 2-inch fish.

Does anyone have any adult rummy nose tetras and tell me how they compare to Neon tetra, glow-light tetra, Harlequin Rasboras,etc..?

Thanks.

I bought 4 rummynose tetras in May this year for my planted 10g. The largest one now is 1.5 inches long. They have at least doubled in size since May. Most likely you got some babies.

Are yours about the same size as a Neon tetra?

You got babies... I have some that are 2 + years old and they are not quite 2 inches with tail. For size comparison, they are bigger when full grown than cardinals by about 20% (which I've been told are bigger than neons full grown by a bit) they are also bigger than white clouds by length by 20-30% but by body size is say they're closer to 50% bigger. The females esp are chubby

As an aside they do like to be kept in larger groups, 6 or more is a good starting point

I think you are right, they are babies. I fear they might get sucked into the filter intake since they were so small. They are the smallest fish in my Aquarium. I have been trying to buy these for a year and have visited every LFS in my area. Finally I found a Petco that had 2 in stock but the person said that they are not part of their normal ordering schedule and maybe they were shipped some on a promotion or by accident.

They were actually pretty expensive at the Petco. I am going to ask them if there is anyway they can special order them. They look like they do need a larger number than 2. Where do you buy your rummy nose tetras if you don't mind my asking?

Thanks.

I just received an order of 13 from LiveAquaria but you can get them from pretty much anywhere online.
Do you pay for shipping or order over $150/$175 for free shipping?

If I had a big enough order, I could justify buying some. I don't know why the big chains such as Petco and Petsmart don't like carrying them?

These are really cool fish and should be a staple for the planted tank Aquarium.

If fact, I just noticed on the banner for this forum/website shows some Rummy nose tetras

Thanks.

My order was actually over the limit for free shipping, otherwise I would have just kept looking locally.
