Someone give me the scooop on this new snail...breeding, caring, size, and all good stuff ...tankmiates?

I lookign for a algae cleaner for my brackish nano...and this seem like it..and i would love to breed some too while they are in there

I esciaplly love the tri color one....if i can find some

Definitely not new. Same as other Nerites. Can't breed them in freshwater.

Requires more than brackish to breed. Most have had difficulty getting them to breed in captivity.

I think they've been around for a few hundred, if not thousand, years...

Seriously though only get 1 for your tank. Even though they don't breed in FW, they will COVER things with tiny white eggs that look like grains of salt. This can largely be avoided if you only get 1 snail as opposed to getting what could be a pair.

cant be avoided if you get a female though. females will lay eggs regardless of males present. however these don't lay as many eggs as the other nerite species.

you are very unlikely to breed them in aquaria - its very involved and difficult. the main problem is consistently feeding the larvae until they settle. I'd say its more difficult than Amano shrimp! do some research on it. just like amano shrimp, it will take more money to get correct breeding setups. you aren't guaranteed success even if you can afford it.

cool.. just want them for cleaning and looking neat in my tank
