I just bought a USED Hagen Glo T5HO 48" 2x54w fixture on ebay for $62 shipped. Although it said that it was used it said that it was in good condition and it was a customer return. I sent a message but didn't get a reply asking if indeed it was fully functional. Once i receive it, are there any things i should check? I'm buying the Giesemann bulbs atm as well which will allow me to further check the fixture since it wasn't sold with bulbs. Hopefully it turns out to be a better deal than what i was originally going to get.

personally i would put it somewhere it cant start a fire connect to an RCD protected outlet and run it for 24hrs if you are unsure of it... worst that could happen is overheat and burn out

so if it passes that test for 24hrs then it should be good to go? Now i'm REALLY ify about this buy lol. I should have just bought the catalina one i was initially going to get. I guess i'm a sucker for a deal, but usually the deals are the ones that end up being more expensive. I will definitely run it outside somewhere though. thanks
Why are you assuming there is something wrong with that light that would do anything other than keep it from lighting up? Fluorescent lights are pretty simple, and generally they either work or don't work. Some of the original Ebay sold lights had quality problems that led to overheating, but Hagen is a not a fly by night company.

it's more me not knowing if the seller is being under-descriptive of the item. He did not have an actual picture of the item, but the generic picture that the website has. I've had a few incidents where i've bought used and it ended up defective. the main one was my "lightly used" xbox. it ended up crapping out on me withing weeks of playing
well both the fixture and my Giesemann bulbs came in. I only installed 1 of the bulbs and plugged it in and it was on for maybe a second and then the light went out. I proceeded to switch that bulb to the other side to see if it was that particular port and the same thing happened. Can someone tell me if it is a defective fixture or am i missing something here? any help is greatly appreciated.
surprised anything happened with just one bulb. My old Hagen 2x T5HO requires both bulbs to light. Put them both in and try again.

Sure enough.....it works. Thanks! My reasoning behind me only using one was that if the fixture didn't work then it would just burn one bulb and not two.
