Holy FRY!!!! Now what?

So... about 3-4 weeks ago I did a total rescape of my Flora, I removed all plants and hardscape and put them in a 10 gal. to hold while I did the rescape. Well I left the plants I did not use in the 10 gal and shut off the filter, heater and light and figured I would tear it down when I got to it. I just did a quick look in the tank to see what the plants have done. The stems are mush, the Java fern is bright green and growing as well as the anubias and crypt. (just floating) I noticed something move in the tank, not expecting that I took a closer look. It appears that one of the plants had eggs on them. I am not sure which specie they are yet. They could be Danio erythromicron, Ember tetras, or Chili Rasbora's, I am leaning a bit to the chili's. I am not sure how to go forward now, they seem to be growing (some are larger then others) and the tank is stagnant. I don't have a filter I can add to the tank without sucking these tiny things in. I can turn on the heater, but it is an autoset to 78* and I am afraid the tank will heat too quickly. Should I get a breeder box and have it in the flora? how do you acclimate something so small? lol too many questions

Hi Noahma,

Sponge filter running lightly for filtration and water movement; baby brine shrimp for food; after you have filter running then turn on the heater. Take a course in speed reading!

Awesome, I had a spare internal filter with a media sock that I just put in on its lowest setting. Very gentle flow in the tank now. I have the heater on and everything is starting up. I will start to pull out the dead plant matter here as soon as the water warms up a bit, I think I will leave the plants that are actually growing lol and we will see where things go from here. I did have some hikari first bites that I keep just in case I get more apisto spawns, so I have that ready to go. I think there might be a couple of each species lol some are larger than others, some have a definite chili shape others I am still not sure.

Thanks for the quick tip. I usually never intend to breed the species I have, so this shocked me lol pretty cool at the same time, I might actually purposefully breed them again if this all works out.

Let's get a pic !!!!
That’s a riot. I would bet that the stagnant water is teaming with food for the fry.
Many of us say we breed fish but in fact the fish do it in SPITE of what we do. A mushy old planted tank is a great place for tiny fish to be raised. Look at a lake and that is where it often happens in nature. Got to stay out of sight of the big scary things!
Thanks for the help everyone. They are doing well, they are too small for me to see if they are eating, but I am sure they are finding stuff amongst the dead plant matter, and the java fern that is in the tank. I cannot wait to see which fish they are lol. I am hoping for more cross banded danio (my population is getting old) or chili's
Ok, I have a better idea of what I have now. It looks like I have 3 CPD's, two CBD's, (yes I keep them together, and I know they can cross, I never intended any fry to survive in the tank) lol two chili rasbora's, and an ember tetra.
