Fluvals are good canisters for the price. Eiehm is a little pricier. Both are nice. you would just have to find one rated for a 60g.
You know, I keep hearing that Eheims are more expensive than the Fluvals but a 2213 which is rated for a significantly higher flow rate than the 105 costs about the same (or less depending where you look).

I have a 105 myself but I wish I had looked at the Eheims first because my 105's only rated for 25 gallon tanks whereas the 2213 is up to 66...

That and the Eheims seem to be easier to mod and come with better tubing and inflow/outflow.

Does anyone know how good a marineland magnum is ? I belive i mentioned it but everyones acting like there is only fluval and ehiem
I've only had Marineland Magnum 350 canister filter and it isn't dead silent, but it's not loud enough to be noticable over quiet conversation or TV/movies or at night. Works fine to keep my 45gal tank clean and water movement/turnover.

I have two Marineland Magnum 350 canisters, and I really like them. The trick is knowing when to use the micron filter and when to use the other media options, since the filter doubles as a polishing filter. With that said, I usually only use mine to clean tanks and get rid of sediment/algae/bacterial blooms in the water column. I like the C-series Marineland canister filters a lot better for normal everyday use. I would compare the C-series to the Eheim ECCO series, and the prices are probably very comparable from most retailers. I like both of these, and have not had any problems with either series. I do not have any experience at all with the Fluval canister filters, so I cannot really give you a comparison there.

Right now I am running dual HOB/canister filter setups on my main tanks; I like to do this for the media versatility and the increased water flow. These are just what works for me: your mileage may vary.

if its working fine and you aren't trying to achieve more silence or various filtration needs then no don't change it..
i changed from a marineland hang on power filter (emperor 280) because i wanted more silence, less noticeable equipment and less media maintenance.. i went to a sunsun cannister..

if ur goals have been reached and its working fine then don't change it for the sake of surface agitation

If you have too much flow, just downgrade to a smaller HOB.

But it really sounds like you're looking for a reason to go with a canister. Just do it. Start cheap, with a SunSun. Look up HW-302 or 402. They're the white canisters with black and blue trim on top. The 302/402 are the lowest flow ones. For comparison, one of them is decent for my 30g.
