HOB Filter Intake

I haven't had any baby shrimp in over 1.5 months with about 16 rcs in my 10 gallon.

I checked the filter today, a P.O.S H.O.B Tetra Whisper and found a survivor.

Right now I have that plastic "sponge" mesh that is used in most filters wrapped around the intake tube.

Is it possible I need more protection than that?

Is there a specific kind of non-toxic pantyhose to use? Any brand?
heh, clean pantyhose shouldn't be toxic. Used ones, well that would vary by the user. :hihi:
I guess I should use "FISHNET"!!!!!

just get some from wal-mart, i would bee leary of clean used ones just because of the detergents that may have been used.
I would buy a sponge and cut a hole in it. You can also buy a "pre-filter sponge". That is what I used on one of my HOB's and it seemed to work well...

Filter Max Prefilter is what I got from Kensfish.com http://www.kensfish.com/ati.html

I use black bridal-veil like fabric from walmart. Pantyhose clogs too easily.
In the laundry detergent section of my store I found a mesh used to put on clothes washer output spouts. It has a mesh small enough to keep baby shrimp out, no metal parts, and a plastic zip tie.

i saw a metal mesh like that at target last night! it was on a washer water hose they labeled it as a lint collector. didnt look small enough to stop baby shrimp tghough?
All I know is I saw a big change in my shrimp population after I put a sponge on the intake of my HOB. Baby shrimp are extremely small so whatever you put on it has to have small enough holes to keep the shrimp out.
