Is anyone using HO LEDS that screw into regular incandescent outlets for high light requirement plant growth?

Thy can be pricey but I use them on my emersed plants and I used to have a single bulb over a cube which worked well, brought out reds really well because it was warm white. They are worth a try though if you are handy with electronics or are friends with someone who is you can build a powerful easy to control DIY setup. If youre doing a small tank I say go for it and aim for 3500k-5500
i am using some 3 x 3 watt LED bulbs from ebay on my mini riparium. they work very well
I'm using LEDTRiC and BoostLED PAR fixtures on my small reef tanks. But the ones you're able to configure yourself (i.e., all white LEDs instead of blues and such) work really well.

While they're all about $100ish per unit, they're great for small tanks.

here are some photos of mine and their application

the tank is a Hagen 10 gallon euro-style rimless. some old ADA AS and a mishmash of plants make this a happy home for my bettas

Algae Beater, that is a very good looking setup! The lights don't look as obtrusive as CFLs in dome reflectors sometimes look.

Algae Beater: What are the lumens/watt output of each of those bulbs?
And where did you purchase them? Any place special?
got them from Ebay

the specs are 3x3 watt epistar LEDs 9 watts total. 540 lumens cool white. the tank is lit nicely with two, but the 3rd bulb is for the dwarf papyrus.
Are they PAR20 bulbs, or are they PAR30 and the picture makes them look smaller?
Looks like E26/E27 screw fitting with 2 inch diameter lamp. Then they should be PAR16 or maybe PAR20 size. But are they really Parabolic Aluminized Reflector lamp.:icon_ques :icon_conf

I have some similar 2 inch diameter lamps, but they are 3x1w or 7x0.3w and Gu10.

Sorry, I realize they are not "bulbs"- just so used to that term. And I know it's just PAR-shaped, but I also used that as a common reference term. Your GU10 lamps (;)) look nice, what size tank are they over?

They are not really lamps either, that why made it italic. Is a bunch of LEDs a lamp? Don't know what to call them.:icon_wink

They are over a 14 gallon plastic storage container.:icon_redf so no picture of it.
Going to replace it with a smaller tank(~10g) and replace the lamps with stronger ones when they breaks. Have really low light now.
I'm considering using PAR20/30/38 style LEDs to light my 40B down the road, but hopefully cost will come down by then. For now, 3x CFLs will do enough low-light for the plants I have planned.
they have a 55mm diameter, so yes about 2 inches and these higher power 9 watt ones will set you back a whopping $6 USD including shipping

i honestly spent more money on the lamp stand (for reptile vivariums) than anything else.
