I really hate to lower myself to this level (Mods, please feel free to remove this) but this guy has been here for just over a month. He freely admits he's a "newb" and who knows, this could be his first forum ever. Why must you constantly be so snarky? If you don't want to answer his questions, or if you're just so above it all, can't you just move on without being the self-designated forum police?

I'm wondering if it's this type of attitude that got you banned from the other forums?
What size tank do you have and what fish do you have in there now? I'm not aware of any "miniature" Discus, as most get about as big as a man's palm (not sure on the exact measurements), so they are definitely not fit for tanks under about 40g IMO.

Can you give us a little more info about your setup?
I'd suggest some german blue rams, maybe. I was considering those to go with cardinals, but I'm going to risk it and get angelfish :)

theres one that grows only 2 1/2 in, is wat they say
I have heard of very rare cases where a recessive gene causes a discus to stay at a very small size (this is not just because of the growth limiting hormones they produce). However, I would not count on being able to buy these fish. Please explain what fish you are referring to.
A pair of Apistogramma sp. or Rams will do.
I second (or third?) the Apistogramma and Ram suggestions. :) Your tank sounds closed to the stocking point, although I don't know the numbers of the fish you have. A pair of Apistos or Rams would fit nicely though.

I believe Boz was referring to the first reply, not your post cleek.
Angelfish are always nice. I call them the poor mans discus LOL

6 rummies( 2 inches or 1 1/2 in ea)
2 loaches(3 inches long ea)
1 plec(4 inch long)
4 barbs( 2 1/2 ea)
3 small cories( 2 inches long ea)

36 inches total i have a 46 gallon....I can get some more fish.

Im thinking abt getting 2 Pearl Gouramies or 2 discuss . Rams r cool but they only live for 3 yrs? I think
Lose the "inch rule" cleek. Its a joke and certainly abused. Don't ever think that buy counting up inches that you make the fish better because they have "enough room". Some fish need more room than others...look at dwarf puffers. they are about 1/2" big, but there bioload alone basically discounts 2 to 3 gallons by themselves.

Just think...a 10" Oscar can't fit in a 10 gallon tank.

However, You can get a few rams or apistos in there no problem.

I agree with this myself. I have 4 of them and even tho they COMPLETLY ripped out the hair grass and the riccia I planted (The riccia is now floating the hairgrass... not so lucky) They are still my favorite and most interesting fish. Keep in mind they need a few things tho.
1) Space, they can get big
2) Hiding spaces, I use a terracotta strawberry pot with the holes on the sides, they love it. I think they would be lost without it.
3)They need friends. You really need at a absolute bare min 2 of them but more is better. I have 4 and their great. I would love to have at least 2 more but I will wait until I upgrade from my 72g to a 150 at least. They will actually establish a pecking order amongst themselves and you may see the larger ones locking mouths and changing to a dark color... just leave them be. Maybe turn off the light. Its just something they do.

Sorry I guess I should have read further before responding. What kind of loaches? Clown loaches will get large and should be in a bigger tank. Sooner rather than later as it will stunt their growth.
I dunno the name of my loaches , however, I do know my r not clown loaches. I got the smaller loaches that dont grow big. They r white and have blk spots. I luv loaches myself , my r playful and they always slither between the rocks , driftwood..cool and my Ruby barb(which I adore) always play tag or something with them...Those r my fav fishies...I luv them:hihi:

O, thx for da advice:icon_smil
I wouldn't get two discuses (discii?). I think they need to be kept in larger groups, and I think it will probably be more water quality upkeep than you are ready for. If you do get discus, do a LOT of research before you get them. They're expensive, delicate, and require a lot of maintenance.
