I dosed nitrogen, phophorus and potassium this morning in a tank with no fauna of any kind. The nitrates are around 20 ppm which is fine. Ammonia - .25 or so - fine. The nitrites are 2.0-5.0 ppm. Will this hurt the plants in any way?

nope. They won't care at all. In fact i believe plants can actually help remove the nitrites out of the water. And i'm 100% sure that they can also remove the ammonia out of the water.

plants prefer/eat ammonia then nitrAtes then nitItes...theyll be fine
