hi all
2 week old newbie to planted tanks here
read somewhere yesterday and have not seen this before or find the tread that said this.
something about turning off lights or filter for 1.5 hours
approx. 5 hours after turning the lights on

Has anyone heard of this?
Does it have a name?
I you do this please explain why???

It's turning off the lights for 1.5 hour. It's called a siesta.

You don't want to turn off your filter unless you're cleaning it.

I'm not exactly sure what it's for because there are no proven benefits from it but from what I've heard, it lessen algae growth and there's a more practical side by having the lights on for a while when you're home from work so you can enjoy it.

Make sure to read our articles on what plants need. You have to strike a balance with light, CO2, and nutrients. Decide if you want a low-tech or high-tech tank.
