Is the dust floating around the water or is it sticking to the sides of the tank, plants and rocks? If it is floating in the water it is likely dust from the flourite. That substrate requires considerable rinsing and even then it gets dusty when disturbed. If the brown dust is stuck to things it is brown algae.

Is it sticking to the glass like Shady said? If so it is probably Diatoms. In his pic it looks like dust floating though.

ive had it for a few months now and it shouldnt be creating the dust anymore.
Have you disturbed it recently(wc/gravel vac/adding new plants). I have to stick with it being dust from the flourite.

The "dust" is only present on the plants and rocks, not on the glass. I was the one who helped her set this tank up.
