Hey Everyone!

I have been in the aquariums hobby for about 35 years but have never setup any planted tanks. I know, I know. The last 15 years of the hobby I have focused on reef tanks. Anyway, I am looking forward to learning new things about the hobby, sharing my experiences, and creating new friends here.

Cheers,
Greg

Welcome! If you can handle a reef tank, a planted tank will be easy for you!

What kind of tank are you starting with for a planted tank?
Hey....

Well, I have been watching The Green Machine's designs for years now. They are inspiring! I am looking to have a long shallow design were the aquascape protrudes from the tank into the room... I would like to have something 48x16x10 or 60x16x12. I called the local glass shop today inquiring about Starphire glass to build the smaller one but she quoted me astronomical prices. :surprise: Tomorrow I will call around around to get quotes on a custom build. If the prices are still more than I want to pay I am looking at having a 3 tank setup. They will be three Aquamaxx tanks. A 7.1 gallon cube next to a 22 gallon long with another 7.1 cube on the other end. The tanks have the same width and height so it should be a cool look...

At this point I am trying to make the setup as clean as possible. I also want enough light so i'm limited on what plants I can keep. Kessil seems promising...

Any suggestions for lighting & filtration?

Cheers,
Greg
Hello and welcome from just south of Missoula,Greg.

for filtration,I really love The Eheim pro4+ series canisters. They are more expensive than most others, but worth it IMO.You can also save a lot from liquidators on the bay.

For lighting,I use finnex planted+ on my tanks. My fav is the 24/7,but I'm not using CO2.
MtAnimals,

Hi neighbor! Well sort of. :)

Is your Eheim quiet? I have an Eheim Ecco canister running on my 100 gallon Rubbermaid aquaponics setup and it is fairly loud. I was always under the impressions Eheim pumps were renown for their quiet operation. Maybe because it's the "Ecco" version...

these are dead quiet.I have the pro4 under the stand,on a 45 next to my side of the bed,and I never hear it.I am also running a 350 under a 55,and I have to put my hand on it to tell if it's running or not.
Welcome to the TPT forum Greg!
MtAnimals,

Yeah that's what I have heard. Mine is rattling a bit. It sounds as though the impeller is wobbling around. I need to take it apart to see.

.... Thanks for the welcome guys!
