Help with restarting 75gl please

351 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  tazcrash69
Several years ago we started a very nice 75gl planted tank with help from several here. Thank You!:icon_cool:icon_cool Due to family and job issues a year ago we got rid of fish and the tank sat empty. The plants slowly died off and I eventually siphoned most of the water out.:icon_cry: It is now time to restart the tank.:) We have pressurized CO2 and our lighting about 3wpg worked for what we wanted last time. It took several months for the remaining water to evaporate. What problems will this cause starting back up? What steps should I take to get the tank running again? Thank you for all of your help ahead of time.

I would say give everything a good once over cleaning with just water.

Seed your tank with gravel from another tank in order to jump start the nitrogen cycle.
Sounds like the old gravel is still in there? I'd get it out, unless you would like to re-use it then I'd definitely wash the heck out of it.

Absolutely, not sure what might have decomposed in there (roots, snails).
Also give the filter material a really good cleaning. Inspect the O-rings, make sure they didn't dry out, and get brittle.
I don't think you should have many problems, but you are going to be starting from scratch.
