My LFS sells Java Fern in mats which contains about 8-10 plants. I was wondering should I leave the mat intack or separate and spread them around. the mat is like a kitchen sponge I wont be able to get them loose but I can cut it up.

Java Fern are tough plants, they'll be fine if u loose a root or two. Not a good idea to put kitchen sponge in you tank any way.. g'luck.

Thanks I wouldn't exactly call it a sponge more like one of the blue scrubby pads. It's weird that's the only way they sell it when I see people all over the forum with individual plants.

I removed mine and retied them to driftwood. There was some shock to the plants though, but they're making a comeback.
