So I noticed this white stuff growing on my driftwood while doing DSM. I actually started with water but I didn't plant my monte carlo that well and wanted to replant and DSM until I got a CO2 system. But I noticed this white stuff growing one day and today there is definitely more.

Is this dangerous / should I remove it? Or is this normal and harmless?

Also, it is only on the side that gets sprayed with water

I don't think your photo posted, but usually its a fungus or bacterial bloom, competently harmless for the most part.
How old is the drift wood and /or tank?
Most of these things have a finite life cycle and will go away on there own but without a photo kind of hard to tell.
the only concern is when the bacteria die off they can cause an ammonia spike.

P.S Shrimp love eat that stuff.
