ok so here are the numbers.
i want to dose a 29gal tank
i have a 1000 ml fert bottle
i want to dose 5ml daily for macro's
lets say i use 800ml of h2o
would i use:
10tsp of K2SO4
10tsp KH2PO4
40tsp KNO3
?
all these numbers are giving me a migraine, does this sound about rite for making a stock solution of macros dosing 5ml a day into a 29 gal? (dissolved in 800ml h2o)
:confused1:

I don't think that will all disolve.... You might want to look at dosing in oz's.... 32oz, right? Make 16 doses of 2oz each. I could be wrong but just giving my 2 cents....

Hope that helps!

any one else with some input?
I have a little experience with this....

THe potassium will not dissolve at that level.

Roughly 60g KNO3 dissolves in 100Ml of water at room temp. 5.6g per tsp of KNO3. Roughly 224 g is what YOU want to dissolve in 1 liter. Sure... should work... but then you are adding potassium from k2so4 and kh2po4. Potassium will come out of solution.

You are going to need to make the solution more along the lines of dosing 2 oz per day.
The easy way to do this is to use the 2 ounce dosage, giving 16 doses in the bottle, so you need to add 16 doses of each dry chemical. If you are following the EI method, that would be, for KNO3, 3 times 1/4 tsp (for 7 daily doses) divided by 7 times 16 or about 1 3/4 tsp. Now, do the same for the other chemicals. Then fill the bottle with water, and you have the right amounts of each chemical for daily dosing. If you have less than high light, you could drop the 1 3/4 tsp down to 1 tsp, etc. The amounts are very approximate.
so for 32oz i'm going to do:
1tsp K2SO4
1tsp KH2PO4
4tsp KNO3
and dose 2oz 3x a week
?
EI dosing:
20-40 Gallon Aquariums
+/- ¼ tsp KN03 3x a week
+/- 1/16 tsp KH2P04 3x a week
+/- 1/16 tsp (5ml) Trace Elements 3x a week
50% weekly water change

For a 29 gallon tank, a 32 ounce bottle, dosed at 2 oz. per dose, 3 days per week...
The 32 ounce bottle will provide 16 doses, also known as 5 weeks and one day of dosing.

So, multiply the EI weekly doses by 5 (ignore that one odd day) and add that much to the bottle.

20-40 Gallon Aquariums
+/- ¼ tsp KN03 3x a week....5 x 1/4 = 1.25 teaspoon.
+/- 1/16 tsp KH2P04 3x a week 5 x 1/16 = 1/4+ teaspoon (so round it a bit!)
+/- 1/16 tsp (5ml) Trace Elements 3x a week 4 x 1/6 = 1/4+ teaspoon (Not in the same bottle, though. Dose traces separately)
50% weekly water change

Yes, I found my tanks needed more K and more Fe and less nitrogen than were in these products, so I add more K2SO4 and less KNO3 than the recipe calls for.

Try adding a teaspoon of K2SO4 to the mix.

Test the NO3 as you go. If you find it is creeping too high, then reduce the amount you are adding to your mix. Watch the plants. If they still get holes in the leaves, then add more K.

Here is my mix, for low tech tanks with fairly high fish populations:
1 teaspoon KNO3
1 teaspoon KH2PO4
6 teaspoons K2SO4
added to 2 liters of water and dosed at 1 ml per gallon.
This lasts me about 1 week, but I have about 700 gallons worth of tanks that I am dosing.

1 teaspoon CSM+B
1/2 teaspoon chelated iron
added to 2 liters of water and dosed at 1 ml per gallon. This also gives me 3 doses, one week of feeding.

Fish food supplies so much NO3 that the levels really climb when I use more, so I don't.
Plants get holes in the leaves when I use less K, and I do not want to dose more nitrogen or phosphate, so I use K2SO4.

Shouldn't i be multiplying by 16 and not 5? because for example KNO3 is 1/4 tsp 3x a week. you are suggesting dosing 1/4 tsp x 5 but this will only make 5 doses, which would be ok if i only dosed once a week but since it is 3xs a week, wouldn't it be 1/4 X 3times a week x5 weeks + 1/4 for the extra dose which equals 16/4 or 4.0 teaspoons.

Maybe I'm missing something but 32oz divided by 2 oz a dose = 16 doses
so you need to multiply by 16.

that's what i said

morning bump, can any one confirm this?
16 doses. 2oz each. I am lazy and hate doing the math so I just look at EI and scoop in 16 doses of each NP+K.
