I know that people always say that they're normal in a 'new' tank, but this tank has now been set up for 3 months, and the diatoms won't go away. All of my plants are dull because of the fine brown dust on them. My tank is so ugly :frown:

Tank info:
47 gallons
1.2wpg T5 (though my new catalina fixture will be delivered this week, and I'm setting up CO2). Lights are on 9.5 hours/day
as of now, I don't use any CO2, but I dose excel
dosing only P and K with trace 2x per week. Nitrates are 15ppm. Fish food and poo create enough nitrates. Does that mean that I shouldn't be dosing P and K??

My plants are actually growing well, but the diatom issue is driving me crazy!!

Can you help me? What do I do? I'll post a pic later today if I have time, but until then, can you give me any advice?

you might just need more ! even in my 30g when i had diatoms..i think because they still scavenge for food that falls into places that my tetras or shrimp dont get to, theyre just not hungry enough to continuously mow the lawn
