After reading some posts on this forum, I think that I have narrowed my selection of lighting down to a couple of sets. The first option would be a

Now my question is which do you guys think would be a better light for my tank. I want to avoid having to go into CO2 so with that in mind, which of these lights would be better. Or if you guys have better lighting suggestion please let me know

Thanks for the input Bmueller. My tank will be a rimless, and regarding the ferts, I will begin the tank with a mineralized top soil capped with flourite black sand. I will also be adding root tabs into the substrate. Other than that I intend to dose excel but not much of anything else. Perhaps I will get some flourish as well but I hope that the mineralized soil and tabs will be enough nutrients for a while.

If you have any advice for this tank please feel free to tell me and again thanks for you input

oh and do you think that the first options would be enough light for this tank?

Nice substrate combo, I want to do a tank with MTS at some point too. Root tabs are good too. Excel will definitely help, even more so with other ferts i.e. flourish, iron etc. The MTS, RT's and excel will be plenty, with the 27 watt light I think you'll be good, if not great. Any plant ideas yet? Fish? What kind of stuff are you running? You should check this thread out: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/low-tech-forum/56042-excellent-list-low-light-plants.html
