I purchased a very nice (expensive!) aqualantis 55 gallon from the LFS today. Dimensions are 40”x15.5x22”.

I got it home and noticed a massive gap around the edge of tank on the right and left side you could fit several sheets of paper under. I realized the person who assembled this had not gotten the center support fully down in place before gluing the dowels. After much cussing, I got the stand apart and carefully reassembled it using a nice vice clamp to make sure all the dowels were seated before screwing it back together.

I can still slide a piece of paper under a few spots on the top. Will the lower rim of this tank help self level this unit a bit or should I be worried about filling it? The bottom rim is aluminum rather than the typical plastic but it does have a rim. Pic attached. Notice I’m leak testing in the kitchen not the nicer wood floor of my living room!

I would suggest using a foam sheet under the tank for support

What do the installation instructions for your tank suggest to install between the top of the stand and the tank?

Which model tank do you have? I couldn't find the one in your picture on their website.

Unfortunately I don't see anything on their website for that model, maybe contact them directly.

My last post was partially bad info. Anyway the stand is the elegance 100 is the manufacturers recommend stand. I triple checked that it’s put together well and I’m thinking this is probably not a big deal. It’s a single piece of paper in just a few areas under the tank with no water in the tank.

This is the tank I have.

My hesitation has been due to almost all rimmed aquariums stating not to use foam as the rim itself is able to absorb small defects. However, this fancy tank doesn’t use a plastic rim rather a single welded piece of aluminum for the base. I am not sure if the aluminum rim should or should not use some kind of underlayment as I have put under all my acrylic and rimless setups in the past. I did however find the attached documentation on the manufacturers website after some searching. The only problem is I don’t know what “carpet shock” is but I am thinking they mean foam.

I wanted to update this because the manufacturer responded to my inquiry. They do recommend a leveling mat under these aquariums and I will be installing one.

If anyone stumbles on this thread in years to come, start by asking the manufacturer of the tank because there is no universal standard for rimmed tanks. Every rimless tank seems to recommend a leveling mat but only certain rimmed models may require it.

Thank you so much for updating the topic after getting verification from the manufacturer.
