Help! Finnex Ray2 1/2 of fixture flashes.

Hello all, this is my first post. Been lurking for a couple months.
OK so I can get a deal on a used 48" Finnex Ray2 DS for next to nothing but the guy selling says that half of the fixture works fine but the other half flashes. I assume his description is true and its a flash and not a flicker. What do you think the issue is? Is it fixable (I'm rather handy)? Or would I have to ship it to finnex? How much do you think it would cost to fix?
Thanks in advance, Mike

could be bad ballast, had several go bad on me already. unfortunately, the ray2 has ballast in the fixture itself while the weaker fugeray has the ballast in the power cord. you can easily replace fugeray ballast with wall wart and simple connectors but ray2 requires more work and disassembly of the fixture iteself. best left to finnex to do. if its out of warranty you need to pay for shipping both ways and repair cost. seller is dumping it for next to nothing most likely because that cost is almost as much as a new fixture. better to buy new and get a warranty.
Thank you for the insight. I guess I'll pass on it.
Well sort of the finnex warranty is only 180 days I think which is essentially nothing for an LED which is suppose to have a long life. If you can get it for nothing and fix it for very little there is very little risk. Tell the guy you will give him a buck and you have almost nothing to lose.

I had this happen to my 36" Ray2, it flickered and then finally 1/2 of the strip failed.

I would email Finnex and see what they can do, they did offer to repair mine if I covered the shipping but I placed the light on a smaller tank instead and never sent it in. I tried to repair it myself but it is incredibly difficult to repair (at least for me).
I think I'm gonna pick it up. The guy only wants $10 for it. I'm decently handy and I have a basic knowledge of electrical. For $10 I'll give it a shot. If I can't fix it myself I'll get ahold of finnex to see how much it would cost. If its to much I'm sure I could find a use for it. Who knows maybe I'll find another messed up one some time and mix and match the parts.

Just want to let you guys know I did buy the light earlier today for $6. I brought it home and it did indeed flash on the back half. So I took it apart carefully until I had all the inwards exposed. I plugged it in and noticed that it would stay on if I flexed the circuit board in the middle. I started looking around all over the board and found that there was a little "node" that was missing its solder. I soldered it up and now it works like a charm. I snapped a couple pics in case someone else runs into this problem. It won't let me upload from my phone but if you guys want to see the pics I'll put them on the computer and try from there.

Or it will load them. Lol the one missing the solder is the top one to the left of the black box. The second pic is the front of the board showing the black box thing.

Lucky...... ;)

Anyways that board looks pretty rough..but it could be the photo..

and thanks for the photos..
What makes it look rough? I dont know much about circuit boards and computer chips. Might just be the picture. In person everything is nice and shiny on the protective case around the board it had the date 6/26/2013. Less than 1 year old.

Mostly my imagination "black box" looked a bit "melty".. Large power capacitors looked like the labels were heat faded.. as I said probably the picture.. Cheeck the electrolytics to make sure tops are perfectly flat (esp. the big ones). as I said.. probably just the picture.
