help design new acrylic sump

549 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  FishStix
having a custom built sump for my new 265 gallon tank.

the sump is going to be 48x20x18

I plan to run bean animal type of return.

I was thinking from left to right

1) 3 filter socks

2) wet/dry

3) poret foam

4) refugium

5) return pump/heaters will also have CO2 pump in this area for reactor

Do you guys think this will work?

I plan to have it sealed as well

What do you mean by sealed? The top? Different sump compartments are nice, but can be a hindrance since the sizes are fixed. Something to consider. Also, how will you minimize bubbles getting back to tank....youll need bubble traps.

Last, my biggest sump issues have been moisture in the stand and mold, so provide ventilation.

Hi,
Yes in regards to sealed, to help so CO2 is not lost. In regards to bubble traps, I don't think you need it on planted sump, since no skimmer.
The water coming into the sump will likely splash and introduce bubbles. In my custom sump I had the water pass under a baffle in both my inlet and outlet chamber.

I understand now, mine will be going direct into 3 filter socks, so I am not sure if I have a problem or not. The person that building it does them for reef setups, I will confirm with him.

Thanks
