I'm starting up a 2.5 gallon nano with a bunch of branching manzanita. I'm looking for a good moss to start on the branches, but I know absolutely nothing about mosses. I would like the moss to stay tighter to the branches since I don't have a lot of space.

I have a 27 watt daylight CF for the tank. I'd like to stay away from Java moss because I don't really like the looks of it. I will be using DIY CO2.

I don't have much experience with different mosses but I do have flame moss and really like it. Its growth is upright rather than tangled like java. It can look pretty spectacular on driftwood.

i think weeping moss(Taxiphyllum ferriei) looks best tied to branches, but that's just my opinion. fissidens is also pretty sweet.

Does fissidens eventually attach itself to the wood or does it need to be permanantly tied down?

I had some attach itself to my substrate. It took a while, but it finally did. You see it growing wild around here attached to rocks and debris. I would use cotton thread or superglue in the meantime.
