Been looking on how I am going to heat my new aquarium. I would like a heating set-up that can cover a wide range of heats as I haven’t decided on what to stock it with yet. I am just terrified cause it seems like every single heater on Amazon has cooked fish. Any recommendations or potential other equipment I can add with the heater to make it safer?

I use an inkbird controller on my heater. You could also use multiple small heaters instead of one large one. In the event of a small heater being stuck 'on' it'll take longer to raise the temp in the tank. It does mean more equipment in the tank unless you're using a sump.

My inkbird is set to maintain 75f and my heaters are set to 77f. So even if the inkbird gets stuck on, the heaters themselves should turn off just 2 degrees hotter.

I would love to have a sump filter but the setup seems overwhelming. I would love to have it though. I am still in the very early stages of setting up the tank maybe I will look into it and do more research and see where it gets me. I was considering a canister filter or maybe a nice looking over the back filter (that is what I have on my 55 is 2 fluval ultra clear filters) but yeah, as far as the heaters what I’m gathering is that I should get a heat controller and just pay close attention to my tank.

(I have only kept mostly smaller tanks until the 55 so I’m getting used to the setup, I have helped maintain much larger established tanks but haven’t set them up myself.)

You can follow the build log in my footer to see how I hid the heater on my tank. I plumbed it inline to the canister filter.
