Hey guys, any of you own a hd-dvd or know anything about it that would recommend me. I've just bought a 70 inch sony lcd from my cousin. I try watching the football game on hd and the picture is amazing. However, I saw a hd-dvd movie and blu ray playing on my cousin projector and it was even better. It got me hook on buying a hd-dvd player since blu ray cost to much. I dont want the really high end stuff or the one thats cheap. Just a well-built player that can give good picture quality between $300 to $500.

Some pic of my set up. My camera not that good.

Or you could buy the $400 ps3(not sure if it came out yet) and you get a blu ray player and a game station! Unless you want to go with a lot cheaper, you could go with a cheaper hd-dvd player
First, I wouldn't buy a single electronic from Walmart, they sell sub-par stuff (Feel free to google and check that).

Next, I would personally like one but I will explain why I wouldn't buy right now:

1.) All Kids Movies are primarily on Blue Ray due to the fact it comes with the PS3. Companies like Disney and Dreamworks signed on because they could expect most households with kids to be more likely to own a PS3 than an HD Player. On the other side, Fox and other large companies went HD-DVD so right now you have a split road.

2.) The technology hasn't "Standardized". I suspect in another one to two years either the technology will standardize or the cost of the "Dual" players will come down quite a bit as people don't like having to choose between them.
I totally agree with enchanted about buying anything electrical from Wal*Mart. We bought a Polaroid LCD TV from them and after 10 months of use..it blewup..yes..it blewup. We did finally get our money back after fighting with everyone involved for 4 months and writing a ton of nasty reviews.

Agreed. Its going to be the same dance as with VHS v Betamax: One will win, the other will disappear......:thumbsup:
Well, buying a dual player will cost you the same amount as buying a PS3 and a 360 with a hd player D:
So yeah, don't go that way yet.
And what resolution does your tv support? If it goes up to 1080i, it would sorta be useless to spend the extra and get the 1080p version, so the 1080i would be good.

Don't worry, I bought a 20" RCA TV from them that after 2 months wouldn't light up the tube. When I first called I had 5 different discussions/arguments with employees/managers regarding there "90 Day" exchange and being told it was 2 weeks.

I finally gave up and bought my current Samsung 30" Widescreen Slimfit HDTV from Best Buy w/ a 4 year "Performance Guarantee" warranty.

About a week later I was finally able to get them to exchange it, but even the new one I am not happy with as it has a really trashy picture compared to the one I had prior to it.
Nope it only goes to 1080i but I have another sharp plasma that has 1080p. I wanted to try it on the sharp first then on sony. I ask one of the person on the avs forum and they advise me that I can get 1080p input by plugging it into the hdmi but my big tv will only put it in 1080i but still good picture. So right now I want to see how it goes for the 42 inch one.
I cant comment on the current players. I use a hd-a1 with my panny ptax100u projector on my CIH screen. Its killer. I honestly dont think either format will win for quite some time, Its still a niche product. Most average consumers think that with standard dvds.. they are getting HD. In the end.. If a format does win.. it will be whatever is cheaper and easily adopted by the mainstream consumer.
I also vote a big fat no for walmart.. anything. You might be able to get some deals on lightly used players @ avsforum's fs/ft forum. Good luck!
Starting at 8:00 a.m. 11/2/07 the Toshiba hd-a2 will be $99 at Walmart! It is part of an instore only secret sale.

I read about it on a link from CNET.
Earlier this week they were crowing that it broke the $200 barrier.
those early black Friday type sales are always a pain unless you are desperately strapped for cash, and are willing to wait at the door before opening, rush to where the player is displayed, push, shove, and grab a box before 50 other idiots do, assuming any boxes are left out at all.

price, may end up winning the format wars;

rumor has it that Sears will begin selling Toshiba's current HD-A3 for $169 on Black Friday,
and there's little doubt that Wal-Mart will want to match or beat that price.
I have a Toshiba A20. Works for me. I have it on my DLP set. Planet Earth in 1080p rocks ;)
I actually just did a presentation on HD DVD vs. blu ray. It is indeed like VHS v. Betamax. The two use the same 405nm laser. The quality is almost identical. However, HD DVD has less space on each disc than blu ray. It is a war of giants backing each format.
Man I forgot all about that sale they had for $99 each. They are really gooddeal and all I have heard are positive review on that player. The reason I'm getting hd-dvd because I have seen them both at my cousin house. Both the same picture quality to me, except one can hold more space whish I dont think any filmakers would use that much space anyways. Do you know when they going to have that player for $99 again?
war's over for me...
you can get a 1080i HD-DVD player from Toshiba for $99.
may as well buy one, then get another 1080p player once
the war's finally won.

supaflyz, if you missed Friday's sale
you can get them on ebaY for a few
bucks more from people who stocked up.

try to get one with UPC code and receipt
so you can get in on that 5-DVD offer;
