HC DSM More light = Faster Growth?

1029 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  quark
So I started some HC on DSM, my first time. I have a Nanobox Flare with a Coralux LED controller that allows me to dim the lights. I currently have the lights set to about 40% output as it is really bright, don't have par values yet. Since watching HC on DSM pretty much puts a whole new meaning to watching grass grow, do you think if I bump up the light output to 100%, would DSM grow faster? or will it just burn? Thoughts?
I have the HC in ADA amazonia powder. Here is a pic for reference.

Heh, I forgot I had this post.

I guess it didn't matter too much, though I do wonder if I had more light, would it have grown faster. Little less than 2 months, and this is the results so far.

For less than two months of grow out time it looks like you are getting good growth with the light you have. In turn more light will give the plants the opportunity to grow faster to a certain extent, but you will also have to provide the plants with more fertilizers and co2 for them to be able to use all the extra light. Too much light and not enough "plant fuel" will result in melted plants and probably mold issues.
did you ever get par readings? i am bouncing between the nanobox or the
Ecoxotic E-Series for my 45p the nano box looks better and i like the Coralux storm controller. can u change the color using the at all Coralux controller?

I haven't got PAR readings on this light yet. Dave has PAR for the Tides which is geared for Saltwater, and they are really high.

The coralux can dim lights on a per channel. I suppose you could as Dave over at Nanobox to make you a custom set of led's each driven by a channel so you can change the color based on intensity. Right now, mines is setup up with cool whites and a cyan on one channel and warm whites with a red on another. So I can somewhat change from warm to cool, depending which channel I set brighter and lower.
