I'm looking to buy a t5 fixture sometime soon, Hoppy suggested this one and I was wondering what anyone else's experience is, I have a four foot 55g that I would want to use it on top of the glass strip on the tank hood i have.

It should be fine, but I think it's designed as a 1-bulb use, and when it cooks, you toss it for a new fixture. Not a bad deal at $25 for something that should last you a good 2 years.

Not really sure of it dying after a single bulbs useful life and not exactly the one you were linked to by Hoppy. I bought 2 of these which are in the SunBlaze line of fixtures.

The ballast is the size of a matchbox and hardwired into the reflector but they seem fair enough quality for the money.

wkndracer, that's a nice light. The doubled cost is well worth it since it has such a good reflector.

You'd either get higher light levels in the tank (if you need it), or you could raise the light higher over the tank for more clearance into the tank.

FWIW, the larger Sunblaze T5 units (the ones that are 4 bulbs) are quite nice, I've seen several in person.

Way way way too much light for us, but if these single strip lights are made to the same quality, they should be very good bang for the buck.

I use the multi-bulb Sun Blaze fixtures for hydroponics (and a grow out tank due to proximity) and have never had any problems with them.
