will getting rid of the hard water on my plexi glass cover thing for my t-5 over my fishtank give me more light?

Yes, it might be cheap enough to get a replacement cut at a hardware store. Slip tubes for the bulbs can be found near the tube flouros in box stores too.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I have very hard water and I clean all the glass around my lights each month with white vinegar. To my eyes, it makes a big difference in how bright the tank looks. But the plants grow nonetheless, whether I clean the glass or not.

Anything acidic will help to remove the minerals, and vinegar, lemon juice or Cola are good. Do the washing away from the tank and rinse well.
It is better to do this more often, while the minerals are still soft. Not wait until they are rock hard and stuck on.

Test any product in a small area before using it on the main area of the cover. Or, if you have a scrap left over (DIY covers) then test the cleaning product on that scrap. Sure don't want to get rid of the mineral build up, just to be left with an all over cloudiness!
