Happy birthday Mula!

Actually I have no idea when her birthday is, but I bought this African Butterfly lady over 4 years ago, and I figure she would be 5 today. :)

Initially alone in a 100gal tank, a few months later joined by a male companion Mulo. Moved to a 34gal pretty much neglected tank, later to a 36gal corner tank, and recently ended up again in her original home, the 100gal tank. Went through weeks without food, accidental GFI tripping and related temperature drop in the garage, without ever complaining or the hint of a smile.

Living on live flies, grasshoppers, butterflies, spiders, moths, giant mosquitos, some small livebearers once in a while, cherry shrimp that venture to the surface, and very rarely some New Life Spectrum community formula bits.

Hoping for at least 5 more happy years...

My she is BEAUTIFUL! Happy Birthday!!! If you had posted yesterday we would have shared b-days :hihi: ! lol
What a gorgeous little lady! Congrats Wasser, and Happy Birthday indeed to Mula!

Speaking of birthdays, how's the other little one coming along? Aren't babies fun? :D
I've always found Africa Butterfly very interesting fish, about how large is she?
Thanks Jen, the other little lady is doing well, turned 5 months recently. Smiling a lot, keeping us up at wee hours cause she wants someone to talk to. :icon_lol:

Nightshop, she's about 4 inches, snout to tail. They look interesting, but are pretty much just hanging out all day, behaviour-wise not super exciting, save those moments when an insect hits the surface.

Got my son interested in catching flies and feeding them to the fish. The other day Mulo got spooked and did his grand carpet dive. Not sure who was more shocked, Mulo or my son. Lol.
Happy birthday Mula!
lol, she's pretty neat looking, always wanted to try one.

And hang in there with your other one, once they get about 14months they get really fun, my nephew just turned 2, fun it is.
Wow, they are beautiful! I always loved how elegant they looked.
you evil Wasserpest!
my internet is hella slow i thought the fish died when the image is half loaded :(
Can you post a big picture of them eating, like in your avatar? Cool looking fish, one that I've never heard of before!

Amazing. This is a very cool thread. :)
One question...for one some reason I keep thinking that they look like jumpers. Do they jump?

What made you think THAT???

Yes, they are jumpers. That's how they catch some of their prey. My tanks are all covered, but over the years I had a few incidents.

One time I had the tank open for cleaning, and went on to do some other things, when I heard a noise BEHIND the tank. First I didn't think anything about it, but some time later I wondered what that could have been. That's a 100gal tank almost flush with the wall. Well... you can imagine. I used some plastic spoons to carefully get her out of the gap and back into the tank.
And can we have some pics of that one in your avatar? I'm assuming that's one of yours.
That's her. Did you check post 12?
HA! I missed that post! Beautiful!
