Hi all, nOOb to this site. Appreciate the wealth of info here.

I use Hanna Colorimeters for testing on my saltwater tank. Does anyone have experience using the Hanna instruments on freshwater.

I am thinking about the following:

Ammonia Low Range HI700 $50
Nitrite Low Range HI707 $60
Phosphate Low Range HI713 $50
Iron HI721 $53
Alkalinity HI755 $48
Hannah TDS HI98301 $58

Any experiences would be welcome to hear.

In terms of nitrogen (NH3, NO2, NO3) you need look no further than an API FW master kit, which also contains pH and high range pH. Hagen and a few other brands have similar kits that others may find more easy to read color changes, but by and large they are all the same. Most brands also have GH, KH, PO4, etc. tests either in the kits or as add ons. These are MUCH cheaper than digital and as accurate as they need to be. No way would I spend $300 on testing supplies unless you're already putting in a serious amount of dough into the tank...perhaps the only one worth that amount would be the TDS meter.
