If that is two 55 watt PC bulbs in AH Supply reflectors, raising it about 8 inches would reduce the light down to a reasonable high level. Any other manufacturers fixture would probably give you less light, so it might even be alright where it is. If you had that fixture hanging about 8 inches above the top of the tank it should give you plenty of light for those plants.

thanks Hoppy! i'll give that a try. i currently have it 2 inches above the top of the tank (drystart). i plan to fill the tank up as soon as the filter comes in. so i'll probably try raising it up to 7.5 inches above the tank.
