I have a low tech setup and I'm starting to see hair algae on my plants. It's a 75 gallon with an Aquatop CF500 UV. My water parameters are:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 5 ppm
GH: 11 degrees
KH: 0 degrees
I dose two capfulls of Excel daily and two capfulls of Flourish twice weekly.
The substrate is Eco Complete with lots of Seachem root tabs.
In the canister I have:
Tray one: course, medium, fine foam topped with floss
Tray two: 2 L Matrix
Tray three: 2 L Matrix
Tray four: Medium sponge, Purigen, and 1 cup of crushed coral
I just added the coral (half cup last Saturday and another half cup today) to try and get the KH up a bit as it's 0. It's about 3 degrees coming out of my faucet.
Lighting is a Finnex 24/7 that I keep on 24/7 mode.
The only algae eaters I have are two Otos.
Any thoughts on what I might do to combat the algae? I would imagine that with the light on 24/7 mode it would be at most medium light. Are there other water parameters that I should be checking?
