Hi all! Posted here asking for warm water (over 79°F) grasses/dwarf palms but no luck - Link warm water recommendation

So did a little research instead. Came up with a few potential plants:

• Rice plant - they grow fairly low and can tolerate very high water temperatures, probably over 100°F. Only problem is I have not come across a thread highlighting experience with this type of grass.

• Reeds growing in pupfish habitats - pupfishes themselves inhabit inhospitable bodies of water that regularly experience soaring water temperature. Only problem is, I dont know which species these are. Anyone knows?

Anyone has experience with rice and/or know what those grasses that grow in pupfish habitat? Thank you!

There are quite a few grasses that can grow emersed and frankly most are going to be better then rice plants which I believe grow several feet high (maybe some rice species are shorter??? - google said 3 to 4 feet which matches what I've seen of people in rice paddy fields).

What you are actually looking for is pond plants. Go to a nursery that sells pond plants and buy what you like there.

Your biggest issue will not be temperature but light. All of these plants will want full sun which you will not be able to replicate. You can get reasonably close by having a bright light only a few inches above the grass. You will want it height adjustable and you will want to use the emersed plant to block a lot (probably as much as possible) of the light from getting to the water where it would create a lot of algae. This can be done aesthetically, but will take some finagling with the scape, plant placement and light placement.

Around me, all the pupfish and plants associated with them are brackish and would not live long in a freshwater tank.

You didn't get responses because you posted in the wrong section. I moved your post to the proper area so you'll get the right eyes on it. I'll be moving this post, as well.

Posting in the right areas means you're going to get those with the right specialized experience seeing your questions. Not everyone checks every area of the forum, so posts can easily be overlooked when things get a bit busy.
