Well I just lucked out and scored a viparspectra 300w led grow light. I get to pick it up Saturday. I realize that the light will have a purple hue but they should have decent PAR. Have any of you used an led grow light on your tanks? Please let me know your experiences with them. The viparspectra is equivalent to a 250W MH lamp according to the manufacturer. My hope is that I'll be able to grow high light plants with it. We'll find out soon enough.
I just found out the v300 is full spectrum. The only thing is a single light at 18 inches covers a 2'x2' area and this tank is 3' long. I have a beamworks 52 watt led light bar on this tank currently. I might use the v300 for the emergent growth and let the beamworks light handle the submerged growth. That would probably allow the v300 to cover the whole tank though PAR at the substrate likely will be low. Combined with the beamworks however I am hoping for decent PAR.
